چکیده

Blinking is vital to maintain the integrity of the ocular surface and its characteristics such as blink duration and speed can vary significantly, depending on the health of the eyes. The blink is so rapid that special techniques are required to characterise it. In this study, a highspeed camera was used to record and characterise voluntary blinking. The blinking motion of 25 healthy volunteers was recorded at 600 frames per second. Master curves for palpebral aperture and blinking speed were constructed using palpebral aperture versus time data taken from the high-speed camera recordings which show that one blink can be divided into four phases; closing, closed, early-opening and late-opening. Analysis of data from the highspeed camera images were used to calculate the palpebral aperture, peak blinking speed, average blinking speed and duration for voluntary blinking and compare it with data generated by other methods previously used to evaluate voluntary blinking. The advantages of the high-speed camera method over the others are discussed, thereby supporting the high potential usefulness of the method in clinical research.

Anterior segment imaging with Spectral OCT system using a high-speed CMOS camera.

We describe a new ultrahigh speed Spectral OCT instrument making use of a CMOS camera and demonstrate high quality in vivo imaging of the anterior segment of the human eye. The high flexibility of the designed imaging system allows a wide range of imaging protocols. Two- and three-dimensional high quality OCT images of the cornea, the anterior chamber and the crystalline lens are presented. A h...

Eye Blink Detection Using Intensity Vertical Projection

Blinking is a spontaneous or voluntary action of human eyes. It has long been used for human-machine communication and human physiological detection. In these applications, detecting the eye’s states, opened or closed, is an important step and affects the accuracy of detecting human intention or physiological states. In this paper, we present a robust method to detect eye blink based on the int...

Modelling of Eyeball with Pan/Tilt Mechanism and Intelligent Face Recognition Using Local Binary Pattern Operator

This paper describes the vision system for a humanoid robot, which includes the mechanism that controls eyeball orientation and blinking process. Along with the mechanism designed, the orientation of the camera, integrated with controlling servomotors. This vision system is a bio-mimic, which is  designed to match the size of human eye. This prototype runs face recognition and identifies, match...

EOG measurement during EPI data aquisition for the event related fMRI of the voluntary eye blinking

The electrooculogram (EOG) of voluntary eye blinking is a distinguishable one among other eye blinking types such as spontaneous or reflexive blinking. In our study, we aimed to measure/detect the EOG of voluntary blinking during Echo Planar Imaging in the MR scanner. After the pulse artifact removal in the EOG signal, the waveform of EOG can clearly show voluntary eye blinking and this was equ...
